Mary Chapin Carpenter and Shawn Colvin Stage College October 19, 2013

Renowned singer-songwriters Mary Chapin Carpenter and Shawn Colvin brought their tour to the Eisenhower Auditorium at State College for an evening of songs and stories.

The two have been friends for over 30 years, appeared with each other on recordings and TV appearances, but have never did a tour sharing the stage.  Throughout the over 2 hour show, MCC and Colvin shared stories and talked about each others songwriting process.  You could tell watching them interact that they are close friends and have an admiration for each other.  When not performing a duet, Carpenter would take a seat and watch Colvin perform and vice versa.

Along with being great songwriters and performers, they each have a great sense of wit and humor and it showed through throughout the evening.  The tour started in Spring of 2012 and has continued off and on since then, ending this month.  What's unique about this tour is that each artist doesn't do many of their hits-they delve into their catalog and do some of their favorite songs along with covers they both enjoy.

After a Beatles cover, Colvin coaxed out of Carpenter that a new album will be coming out in January called "Songs From The Movie" that was recorded with a symphony.

Ending the night on a duet, they performed "That's The Way Love Goes".
